Derek J. Markle
Derek J. Markle represents financial institutions, large and small businesses, and individuals in a wide variety of matters, with a particular emphasis on litigation in both state and federal court. Prior to joining the firm, Derek practiced at a boutique class action litigation firm based in Pittsburgh where he represented both plaintiffs and defendants (including financial institutions and businesses) in complex class action and other litigation throughout the country arising from antitrust and competition law as well as privacy and data security law. In addition to his litigation expertise, Derek’s experience in those matters gives him a unique insight into compliance and related matters which will benefit the firm’s clients outside of litigation.
Derek graduated magna cum laude from Saint Francis University in 2013 and remains very active in the Saint Francis alumni community, most recently serving as Vice President of the National Alumni Association, the youngest person ever to be elected to that office. Derek obtained his J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University. In addition to his required coursework, Derek was a member of Penn State’s trial team, placing second at the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County’s Annual Mock Trial Competition. Derek also served as a judicial intern with the Pennsylvania Superior Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit during his law school tenure.
Derek is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. He is also a member of the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.
Derek lives in Lawrenceville, and in his free time enjoys cooking and exploring Pittsburgh’s ever-expanding culinary scene. Derek also enjoys golfing and skiing, and is an avid Penn State football fan.
